Andrew L. Merritt, MD
Board-Certified Orthopedic Surgeon
Dr. Andrew L. Merritt is a board-certified, fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in hip and knee surgery in the greater Seattle area. He sees patients at Proliance Orthopedic Associates in Renton, Covington, and Auburn (Lakeland Hills), Washington.
His clinical focus includes ACL reconstruction, meniscus repair, cartilage restoration, patellofemoral instability, knee osteotomy (HTO and DFO), partial and total knee replacement, and hip replacement. He treats patients experiencing knee or hip pain, stiffness, swelling, instability, catching, or reduced mobility — whether from a sports injury, arthritis, or trauma.
Dr. Merritt completed fellowship training in Sports Medicine and Shoulder Surgery at the Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) in New York City — consistently ranked the number one orthopedic hospital in the United States — where he also served as an Assistant Team Physician for the New York Giants (NFL). Prior to his fellowship, he completed his surgical residency at the University of Washington and Harborview Medical Center, the region’s only Level I Trauma Center. That background in complex trauma and reconstruction gives him the depth to handle difficult fractures, revision cases, and multi-ligament knee injuries.
In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Merritt is a designer of the NEXTAR Partial Knee system for Medacta, Inc. — an augmented reality–guided knee replacement platform that combines intraoperative imaging with precise anatomical planning to improve implant alignment and long-term outcomes. He also serves as Medical Director of Proliance Surgery Center at Valley, ranked by U.S. News & World Report 2025 as a “Best Ambulatory Surgery Center” and ranked #10 in the nation for total knee replacement volume by Becker’s ASC Review.
Dr. Merritt performs the majority of his procedures as outpatient or same-day surgeries — including knee replacements, ACL reconstructions, and cartilage restoration — allowing patients to recover at home without an overnight hospital stay. He is dedicated to helping patients of all activity levels, from elite athletes to active adults, return to movement, function, and the activities they love.
