What Is the HOOS JR Score?
The HOOS JR (Hip Disability and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score for Joint Replacement) is a validated, patient-reported measure used worldwide to evaluate hip function after total hip replacement. Patients answer six questions about pain, daily activities, and mobility, which are converted to a score from 0 to 100.
How to Read the Score
Most patients start around 50 before surgery. A score above 80 at one year represents a well-functioning hip. Even a few extra points translate into real, everyday differences — less pain getting out of a car, more confidence on stairs, and the ability to walk longer distances without stopping.
