Recovery Tools I Recommend

Don't just get through surgery.
Aim for perfection.

Ice therapy and nutrition aren't extras — they're a critical part of how well you recover. This page links you to the specific products I recommend to give your body the best possible chance at a great outcome.

Why These Tools Matter

Surgery is a controlled trauma. The right tools help you rebuild.

Your body responds to surgery by ramping up inflammation and shifting into a breakdown state, dismantling muscle and tissue for the energy it needs to heal. Two things blunt that response and speed your recovery: controlling inflammation and swelling early with cold therapy, and giving your body the raw materials it needs through smart nutrition. These are the products I recommend to my own patients to do exactly that.

The goal isn't just to get through surgery. It's to set your body up to heal as completely as possible — and aim for the best outcome we can.

The Two Pillars of a Great Recovery

Almost everything I recommend comes down to two things: controlling inflammation with cold therapy, and giving your body the fuel it needs to heal. Get these two right and you set yourself up for the best possible outcome.

Ice & Compression

This is the single most important thing I recommend after surgery — for both pain control and a quick recovery.

A cold-therapy machine circulates chilled water with gentle compression around the joint, delivering steady, targeted cold more evenly than an ice pack ever could. Use it 20 minutes on, 20 minutes off while you are awake. In the critical first days and weeks, that consistent cold pulls down the inflammation and swelling that drive most of your early pain.

Better pain control usually means leaning less on medication, sleeping better, and getting up and moving sooner — which is exactly what a strong recovery needs. It's simple, it's safe, and it makes a real day-to-day difference in how comfortable you are.

Honestly, I can tell at six weeks who has been using ice and compression and who hasn't — the difference is that clear.

Surgical Nutrition

Surgery pushes your body into a breakdown state — the right nutrition helps you rebuild instead of lose ground.

Going into surgery with fully loaded nutritional reserves, and continuing through recovery, gives your body the raw materials it needs to heal. Around the time of surgery I recommend the XR Surgical Recovery Program, and on top of that I recommend protein, collagen, and creatine to support muscle and tissue healing. I walk through exactly why each of these matters — and how to use them — in the video below.

One note: I don't sell protein through this store — just pick up a quality protein powder on your own. Everything else I recommend is available here.

Go Deeper on Nutrition

Most patients heading into surgery aren't eating nearly enough protein.

I recommend 1.6–2.0 grams of protein per kilogram of ideal body weight per day around the time of surgery — roughly two to three times what most people actually eat. My nutritional optimization page walks through exactly what to take, how much, and when to start.
